Bye SuperSonics

Xavier Chokes someone

I will miss the Sonics in Seattle. Some of my best childhood memories involve going to Sonics games. I remember my FIRST NBA game, I watched Michael Jordan’s Bulls take on the Sonics in the old Kingdome. I can’t blame Oklahoma City and its residence for wanting NBA basketball in their town, they did nothing wrong and are fantastic people. There really is only three entities to blame; David Stern, Clay Bennett, and our very own Washington State Legislature. David Stern should have never allowed the sale of the Sonics to non-local owners, especially owners who he knew wanted to relocate the team to begin with. Clay Bennett for going after a team that didn’t need to be relocated, dismantling it completely to discourage fans from going to games to strengthen his argument, for lying to Howard Schultz about selling the team, and for not just taking a profit and selling it to the Steve Ballmer ownership group. He could have taken the Grizzlies, Hornets, or even the Kings.

Our state legislature really dropped the ball, all they had to do was provide financing for a new building like they did for the Seahawks and Mariners with no questions asked ( I believe they even scheduled a special session for each of those teams.) They are up again this year and lets hope they do the right thing for not only the City of Seattle, but for the state of Washington.

I think the worst part about this settlement is the stranglehold on the history, leave it in Seattle and start your own.

Quake Media

Look for changes at QuakeMedia.com coming VERY soon. I’m really excited about it, so check back before May :).

Still Alive and Kicking

I am still finishing up this theme and releasing it to the public hopefully by the first of April, but in the web design world nothing is for certain. I was just posting in order to share with everyone the wonderful tool known as reCAPTCHA. ReCAPTCHA is an API for web developers to protect them and their users from spam by requiring them to solve a text code, nearly all internet users use them on a daily basis. There is just one catch, you are helping the publish digitalized books online as well. For each puzzle solved you help correctly modify the way the text is inputted! Take the time to read the link and learn more about reCAPTCHA!

A few good resources while designing your webpage.

IE Netrender - A tool that shows you your website in various version of IE. Great for web designers designing on a Mac.

Browser Shots - The holy grail of cross browser compatibility. Renders your website in every browser imaginable! It takes awhile so you may have to sit there and extend it while if you decide to view the default selected browsers.

CSS Reference Guide

When programming a website or theme using strictly Cascading Style Sheets remembering what some of the key elements are can be tricky. Sitepoint, an excellent reference and forum for any web designer, has created a reference guide strictly for CSS. The guide includes examples of the use of each element within the tags. One of the best features is the compatibility chart showing which browser support each element. Its like having a Google for CSS tags. Check it out!

Test Post.. Wordpress coding = tedious sometimes.

One look at a cluttered workspace, and you get a sense that the person working there is stressed, overwhelmed, and disorganized. Years ago I read about a study that concluded most managers will not promote a person with a messy workspace into a position of responsibility. It’s assumed that if you can’t organize your physical environment, you’re probably incompetent to a certain degree and can’t be trusted. And if layoffs happen, you can imagine who the most obvious targets are.

But even more critical is the effect a cluttered workspace has on your focus. It’s difficult to feel centered when you’re surrounded by unfinished tasks that constantly remind you of what you haven’t done yet. Ideally the only paper items on your desk should be directly related to the current task at hand. Store everything else in drawers, shelves, or cabinets. Many people notice a dramatic improvement to their productivity when they try this.
