The Dark Knight

So last night Jamie and I went to see the newest Batman movie, The Dark Knight. This movie stars Christian Bale returning as Batman/Bruce Wayne and Heath Ledger in his final full feature performance as The Joker. With all the hype leading up to this movie it really doesn’t disappoint. Throughout the whole movie my eyes were glued to the screen hoping not to miss a single second of the film. Heath Ledger’s portrayal as the Joker was not only dark but nearly downright scary. This Joker isn’t the joke telling Jack Nicholson version but one that could give children nightmares. The make-up artists did a fantastic job with the make-up for the Joker. His smile is scars on his face with smeared make-up, just great, but the real masterpiece was the job they did for Two Face. Two Face has a half skeleton half man appearance that looks real, just amazing.

As for the movie there is one thing I always get told when I tell people they NEED to watch this new series starting with Batman Begins. There is something about this new series that is very gripping and not your normal “superhero” movie, they are dark and Christan Bale actually gets injured and isn’t at all supernatural. The bank robbery scene which became infamous before the movie was officially released lives up to all the hype.

Overall I give this movie a MUST SEE rating, especially if you have seen the first one. If you haven’t seen Batman Begins watch it first, then you’ll really enjoy the complexity of The Dark Knight.

*side note: I also downloaded The Dark Knight soundtrack, scored by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard, it is absolutely stupendous and very well worth an iTunes purchase. It surpasses the mediocre work done on the first film and introduces new themes and very much adds to the epic which is The Dark Knight.

Bye SuperSonics

Xavier Chokes someone

I will miss the Sonics in Seattle. Some of my best childhood memories involve going to Sonics games. I remember my FIRST NBA game, I watched Michael Jordan’s Bulls take on the Sonics in the old Kingdome. I can’t blame Oklahoma City and its residence for wanting NBA basketball in their town, they did nothing wrong and are fantastic people. There really is only three entities to blame; David Stern, Clay Bennett, and our very own Washington State Legislature. David Stern should have never allowed the sale of the Sonics to non-local owners, especially owners who he knew wanted to relocate the team to begin with. Clay Bennett for going after a team that didn’t need to be relocated, dismantling it completely to discourage fans from going to games to strengthen his argument, for lying to Howard Schultz about selling the team, and for not just taking a profit and selling it to the Steve Ballmer ownership group. He could have taken the Grizzlies, Hornets, or even the Kings.

Our state legislature really dropped the ball, all they had to do was provide financing for a new building like they did for the Seahawks and Mariners with no questions asked ( I believe they even scheduled a special session for each of those teams.) They are up again this year and lets hope they do the right thing for not only the City of Seattle, but for the state of Washington.

I think the worst part about this settlement is the stranglehold on the history, leave it in Seattle and start your own.
